The guidance is intended to support safe, in-person learning and care in K-12 schools and child care by building on the lessons learned and multi-layer strategies used to manage COVID-19. The document provides a general prevention framework to reduce the spread of multiple types of infections, including COVID-19, influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and norovirus. This guidance provides general recommendations and does not replace or revise existing laws or requirements that apply to schools and child care. The approach is guided by the principle that safe, in-person learning, and child care are critical to the well-being and development of children in California. The County of San Diego County regularly updates its website to reflect guidance from the state on schools, and provides county-level guidelines to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
